Spring 2011 Newsletter

Happy New Year and welcome to the first ElasticHosts newsletter of 2011!

We are very excited about the developments we have planned for this year but first we need to let you know what we’ve been up to since the last newsletter back in the Summer.

Product improvements:

Recurring billing:

Whenever you make a payment by credit card, you now have the choice to set up auto-renewal on your subscriptions and auto-topup on your prepay balance. We recommend all existing customers set these up.

Non-VAT Payments:

With the increase in UK VAT to 20% this month, we’d like to remind customers in our UK data centres that if you are a non-UK business and feel you should be exempt from UK VAT, you can send us your VAT number or company registration number and we will set up your account so that you won’t be billed for VAT. Customers in our US data centre are already not paying UK VAT.

New pre-installed images and CDs:

We now have preinstalled images of CentOS 5.5, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and Debian 5.0 available. These auto-expand to whatever size you need, and also have a special toor user that has ssh access out of the box, using your VNC password, without having to log in through VNC initially. We are also in the process of adding a Ubuntu 10.10 pre-installed image and updating our self-install CDs.

Please let us know if you have a specific OS you would like to see added to the list.

Stopped server support in the API:

The API now recognises stopped servers so each server keeps the same UUID throughout its lifetime.

Bandwidth graphs and history:

The traffic graphs linked from your servers or from the billing page in your account now show history up to the last four months.

Libcloud and jclouds API integration:

ElasticHosts is fully integrated by Libcloud and jclouds, two cloud portability libraries, bringing their tools and users to our platform.

News:

ElasticStack news

Our ElasticStack cloud platform allows data centre operators and hosting providers to launch own brand cloud services based on ElasticHosts technology. We have now signed up 4 licencees and are in discussions with several more. 3 of these have already launched their own-brand cloud services using our technology.
